It is estimated that 66% [53% to 79%] of people are living on HIV treatment, a gap of 2.7 million from reaching target 3. In addition, 90% [70% to 98%] of people taking this medication experience antiviral treatment, demonstrating the effectiveness of the treatment.
Between 2000 and 2020, HIV infection fell by 49%, the percentage of HIV-related deaths fell by 55% with about 15.3 million lives saved on ART during the same period. This achievement is the result of a major national HIV program supported by civil society and various government sectors.

In Southeast Asia Region:
An estimated 3.7 million [2.8 million to 4.4 million] people are living with HIV by 2020, with 61% [44% to 73%] on treatment. An estimated 2.2 million [2.2 million as many as 2.3 million] people are using antiretroviral therapy in 2020.
An estimated 100,000 [71 000 to 130 000] people will be newly infected with HIV by 2020; and new infections among all ages remained stable in 5% [4% to 6%] of the 1000 uninfected population by 2020.
A total of 82,000 people [55 000 to 130 000] deaths were attributed to HIV-related causes in 2020, a decrease of approximately 17.9% from 2019.
